Throughout twenty centuries of Christianity, the world and its peoples evolved in fascinating and various ways. This book touches on some of this history, concentrating on one century at a time. It weaves Christianity’s roles throughout these times and places with stories of saints and corresponding activities. Reflecting the great variety of cultures and eras, the saints represent many places, temperaments, social classes, and a multiplicity of ways of loving God.
Important cultural and society events in each century are presented in every chapter, in addition to the saint for each century. Some of the saints are:
First century: Paul of Tarsus
Fifth century: Brigid of Ireland
Eleventh century: Margaret of Scotland
Seventeenth century: Martin de Porres, Peter Claver and Kateri Tekakwitha
Twentieth century: Edith Stein
